Pt. Ulhas Kashalkar

Pandit Ulhas Kashalkar, a doyen of Hindustani classical music, stands as one of the most revered vocalists of our time. A true custodian of tradition, he is among the rare maestros to have mastered the nuances of three major gharanas—Gwalior, Jaipur, and Agra—seamlessly blending their distinct styles into a singular, soul-stirring expression. Trained under his father, N.D. Kashalkar, and later under the legendary Pandit Ram Marathe and Pandit Gajananrao Joshi, his artistry embodies a perfect balance of technical brilliance and profound emotional depth. His khayal renditions, marked by intricate phrasing, effortless taans, and an unmatched command over raga aesthetics, have enthralled audiences worldwide. As the senior most and most distinguished artist on the YSS judging panel, Pandit Kashalkar brings not only his decades of performance excellence but also a deep-seated commitment to the future of Hindustani classical music. A revered guru, he has mentored generations of musicians, ensuring the transmission of this rich tradition with utmost purity. Trained under eminent gurus such as Ramashreya Jha ‘Ramrang’, Vinaya Chandra Maudgalya, Jitendra Abhisheki, and Kumar Gandharva, she has cultivated a style that blends rigorous classicism with lyrical expressiveness. Her command over khayal, thumri, and dadra is distinguished by an emotive depth, tonal richness, and an ability to breathe new life into traditional forms. Beyond her acclaimed performances, Shubha ji has been a vital force in expanding the reach of Indian classical music, advocating for artist rights, gender equity, and the role of arts in education. Her contributions have been recognized through prestigious honors such as the Padma Shri and numerous national and international awards. As one of the distinguished judges for Yuva Sur Sartaj 2025, Shubha Mudgal ji brings with her a wealth of knowledge, a spirit of artistic integrity, and an inspiring vision for nurturing the next generation of classical musicians.
